I'm taking this chance of being home alone to cook my meals. Well, my attempts have been mostly unsuccessful but the long-term results of this decision have caused me to lose weight. Yah!
It can be a headache having to think of simple, fast and yet tasty fare to cook but it is fun too. I get to learn what works and what doesn't. The washing up is pretty all right because I try to use the minimum of utensils and ingredients.
I tried to cook porridge but probably due to the quantity of stock used, it became rice instead! Also, I overestimated the amount of rice to use and cooked excess. Sigh. Though I used stock and added mushrooms as well as dried scallops, it wasn't really nice to eat. So I added sesame oil and oyster sauce to make it more palatable. Well, it seemed to work. I added more stock the next time round and yes, it looked more like porridge. Alas, it was just soft rice upon eating it, still rice! Sigh sigh.
My successful dish was sausages in tomato sauce. It sounds so simple but it is an achievement to me, as I can't really cook. :) I fried sliced garlic before adding tomato sauce, water and chilli sauce to make a gravy. Then I sliced some tinned Vienna sausages before mixing them with the gravy. Well, it tasted pretty good. :)
I look forward to more cooking misadventures in the meantime, till my parents return! Lol. It is such a shame for me to know that a guy friend of mine can cook better than I can. Well, actually more than one guy friend of mine can cook better than me! *Blush* He actually told me how to marinate chicken and make gravy at the same time. I can never say it off just like that! Kudos to him! It is supposed to be the women who cook for the family as tradition dictates but I've obviously just disgraced the entire gender! Lol.
