The art of eating healthily

I subscribe to this website on losing weight from Beliefnet and one of the advice given is not to give in to eating when depressed. It's really not that difficult to resist the urge. Yes, it's a conscious choice to do so but it'll be good for the body in the long run.

I do have these urges, as most women do but I overcome them by telling myself that I want to eat that particular food, only because I'm upset and want to vent my feelings out. It is not a craving I have due to sheer desire for it. So by psychoing myself, I forgo the unhealthy food I wanted to eat in the first place.

Another way to overcome it is to choose healthier alternatives. I chose a packet of milk over a packet of chips or biscuits. I still felt satisfied. Fruits are another option.

Kiwifruit
It boosts energy levels with relatively few calories. Since it's low fat, it's good for the heart too.
It keeps you going longer, maintains your glucose level during hard training sessions and keeps you staying strong longer.

Stop hiccups by standing straight, sticking your arms straight up in the air above your head and wiggle your fingers.

The Cheater's Guide to Indulgence:
The occasional snack won't make you sick. Go junk-food-free for 3 days a week, drink lots of water, reintroduce small portions of snacks after the 3 days. Switch to healthy, flavourful snacks like raisins, unsalted and unsweetened mixed nuts, fresh or dried fruits and low-fat cheese if you've been bad for a whole week. Allow yourself a day in the week to have whatever you want.
Just standing up for 2 hours a day can slash your risk of obesity by about 10%. Walk 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week. Do random fitness acts like walking to the MRT station and taking the stairs.
Make time to snooze, clock in 12 hours of restful sleep every night for a week or 8 hrs a night. Don't take caffeine after noon, grab a 30-minute power nap at lunch. Stretch before bedtime.

If you have an ideal weight to maintain, it helps as well. I lost 7kg to fit into my choir uniform and I'm not about to regain it due to sloth.
