Mooncakes

The range of mooncake fillings is astounding as compared to the past. Besides the already innovative fillings like durian, chempadak and ice-cream added to the usual fillings of lotus paste with or without salted egg yolk in snow skin or pastry skin, there are now pearly jade, black sesame, green tea, chocolate, mango, coffee, honey banana, rum and raisin, honey dew, yam and latte fillings as well. Gone are the days when simple and basic fillings made up each mooncake sold in the market.

This year, I had a few pleasant surprises. I was given mooncakes in boxes with ornate and classically Chinese designs on them from my students. One of them even gave me a teaset with jasmine tea leaves to complement her box! All good things come from God and so He must be thanked. :)
